The Church Divides

Church Unity Campaign

campaign button that says "unity" in the middle of it

The division between the Eastern, Greek Orthodox, Church and the Western, Roman Catholic, Church began because of political and theological disagreements and language barriers. Although differences exist between the two Christian Churches, similarities do as well.

Imagine you are a religious leader attending meetings to work toward achieving unity between the Greek Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. As such, you have developed a campaign advocating for whether or not you believe unity can ultimately be achieved between the two Churches. To present your opinion, create a campaign button with an original slogan that represents your viewpoint. Then write an accompanying paragraph that describes your slogan, and explains the reasoning behind the side you selected. Be sure the paragraph includes information about the root of the Great Schism. For example, discuss differences in the Churches' cultures, languages, politics, geography, and doctrines.
