Imagine that it is June of 1950, and you are President Truman's press secretary. Your job is to act as the liason between the White House and the media, and the president has asked you to create an outline for a press release that provides President Truman's justification for the U.S. military action in Korea. Your outline should include five to six sentences presented as bullet points to support President Truman's decision. You should use your knowledge about the roots of the Cold War and the events leading up to the Korean War in the completion of your outline.
Before you begin your outline, visit the United States government's Our Documents website to read through a transcript of the Truman Doctrine. This foundational document will provide you with a unique perspective of President Truman's outlook on the containment of communism.
Before you begin, access the Korean War Press Release Checklist to make sure that you have include all of the items required for full credit. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document.
