Instructional iconPretend that it is 1789 and that you live in France during the French Revolution. A reporter for the local paper contacts you to help him with some fact checking for an article that he is writing about the people, places, and events of the French Revolution. In order to help him with his article, read each of the statements below and then rewrite the sentence so that the bolded section contains correct information.

  1. Several European leaders worked for the good of their people, while trying to maintain their absolute power. These leaders were known as "generous monarchs".
  2. The French Revolution was inspired by the writers and philosophers of the Middle Ages.
  3. Also, the German Revolution served as an influence on the French Revolution.
  4. In 1789, France's legislative body, called the House of Deciders, met after refusing to pay taxes until the King called them together.
  5. Prior to the French Revolution, all of the taxes were paid by the commoners and business people, known as the General Organization.
  6. The beginning of the French Revolution was marked by the new National Assembly vowing to make a new constitution under the Croquet Promise.
  7. On July 14, 1789 the public stormed the Palace of Versailles, where the government held political prisoners and conducted torture.
  8. During the French Revolution, the first version of the French Constitution was known as the Declaration of Independence.
  9. After the death of the King, Maximillien Robespierre came to power and led a time period known as the Sun Era.
  10. After Robespierre's rule, France reformed the government and five people, known as The Directory, were selected to rule France together with a two-house legislature. The Directory put King Louis XVI in charge of the army and he proved to be a military genius.
