Instructional iconPretend that you are an editor in charge of a travel magazine around 1800 A.D.. Your job is to pick one of the cities listed below and then create a one page travel advertisement design that would appeal to Europeans who are looking to visit or permanently live in your city. You may choose from:

    • Havana
    • Mexico City
    • Lima
    • Sao Paulo
    • Buenos Aires

Your travel advertisement design can be a flyer or brochure and it should contain the following:

    • The name and location of the city you are advertising
    • A creative slogan inviting people to visit
    • Two images that capture the location or features of the city
    • Two reasons why people should come visit your city
    • Two ways in which your city represents its mother country, or is similar to its mother country of Spain or Portugal
    • Two accurate economic activities – you will need to show how people who are moving to your city would make money

Remember, your job depends on your ability to attract people to your city, so be creative! Your travel advertisement should be attractive and well-organized. Before you begin, access the Travel Advertisement Design Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you used.

Options to create your advertisement include the following:

  1. Hand-draw the assignment and then take a picture of it.
  2. Hand-draw the assignment and then scan it.
  3. Utilize a paint or graphics program to create the advertisement.
