Determining the Slope of a Line

a graph of a line

The slope of the line y = −2/3x + 1 is −2/3

In this topic, you learned multiple strategies to calculate the slope of a line. When given the graph of a line, you learned how to determine the ratio of the vertical change to the horizontal change. You also learned how to identify the slope of a line when given the equation of a line in various forms. In addition, you explored the slope formula and learned how it can be used to determine the slope of a line when given the coordinates of two points on the line.

Think back to the line graphed in the introduction of this topic.  How can you use the slope formula to confirm that the slope of the line is 2/3?
