The Circulatory and Respiratory Systems

Imagine that you have just been hired by a local hospital to lead a campaign to help prevent lung and heart disease. Your job is to create an educational poster about the dangers of cigarette smoke, which can negatively affect both the heart and lungs. Your success on educating the general public depends on your poster being creative, engaging, and informative. Your poster should include the following:

  • Relevant pictures, including charts or graphs;
  • Facts relating to the effects of smoking cigarettes on the lungs and heart, including stroke;
  • Diagram or chart fully illustrating the flow of oxygen and cigarette smoke through the respiratory system; and
  • Diagram or chart illustrating impacts of cigarette smoke on heart disease and stroke, including signs and symptoms of stroke.

Before you begin the assignment, review the Educational Poster Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You will need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment, so please submit a Works Cited document with your assignment submission. Options to create your poster include the following:

  1. Hand-draw the poster and then take a picture of it for submission to the assignment’s dropbox.
  2. Hand-draw the poster and then scan it for submission to the assignment’s dropbox.
  3. Use a template in a word-processing, presentation, paint, or graphics program and utilize the software to create the poster. You can then submit your work to the assignment’s dropbox.
  4. Use a mobile or computer-based application to create your poster and email or export the final product for submission to the assignment’s dropbox.
