Percent Yield

It might be hard to think of a manufacturing process in which percent yield is not considered of utmost importance. Clearly, as percent yield of product is increased, so is profit. To solve for percent yield, you need to divide the actual yield by the theoretical yield and multiple by 100. Will the percent yield equal 100%? It is not likely. In a chemical reaction, the percent yield is very rarely 100%. Sometimes, there are various side reactions that produce substances that are hard to measure. Other times, it is too costly to have the same amounts of reactants. This causes one of the reactants to become the limiting reactant.
