Earth’s Atmosphere

View of Earth through a portholeEssay iconVery few people have traveled through all of the layers of the atmosphere on their way to outer space. Imagine that you are an astronaut who will travel in a rocket to the International Space Station. Write a short story of twelve to fourteen sentences about traveling from Earth to space as you travel through each layer of the atmosphere. Describe what you will see as you peer out of the rocket’s porthole. What conditions exist as you travel through each layer? Your story needs to effectively describe each layer of the atmosphere. Make sure to include the following terms/processes in your short story:

  • The name of each layer;
  • An indication of air pressure changes in each layer;
  • An indication of temperature changes in each layer; and
  • Two defining characteristics of each layer.

As you compose your story, be creative and informative. Before you begin, access the Atmosphere Story Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment, if so please submit a Works Cited document with your assignment submission.
