Earth’s Atmosphere

Earth’s atmosphere has developed and changed throughout Earth’s history. Earth’s current atmosphere is critical in supporting life. It keeps the Earth warm as it protects the inhabitants from harmful solar radiation. The atmosphere is primarily composed of nitrogen and oxygen. The layers of Earth’s atmosphere each have unique characteristics. Air pressure decreases as altitude increases throughout the atmosphere, but temperature changes vary between the different layers.
