Mapping IconThe Earth has different climate zones. One major cause of different climates is a location's latitude. It is important in Earth science to know the approximate locations of the different climate zones. Using the Blank Map of the World, label each of the climate zones listed below on the map.

Blank World Map

On the blank map of the world, you will need to label, outline, and color the following climate zones:

  • Desert
  • Tundra
  • Marine West Coast
  • Semiarid
  • Humid Continental
  • Highland
  • Humid Subtropical
  • Tropical Wet and Dry
  • Ice Cap
  • Tropical Wet

Digital Repository IconIn order to complete your climate zone map, you will need to research the locations of each zone. You can use a web-based search, or visit Observe Images of Different Climate Zones from eMediaVA℠.

Before you begin, access the Climate Zones of the World Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You will need resources outside of this course to complete this assignment, so please submit a Works Cited document with your assignment submission. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you used.

Suggestions for completing and submitting your map include:

  • Create a hand-written map with labels. Then, take a digital photo of the completed work and submit the photo file to the dropbox.

  • Create a digital map using available software (e.g., a presentation, publishing, paint, or graphics application). Submit the completed file to the dropbox.
  • Use a mobile or computer-based application to create your map and email or export the final product for submission to the assignment’s dropbox.
