A Real Writer's Reflection
This is your first chance to add a writing sample to your digital portfolio. Remember that part of this portfolio will include writing samples where you reflect. When writing a reflective paper, it is vital that you include your thoughts and reactions. Also, you will need to do more than just summarize what you have read or done. You need to reflect upon the writing by analyzing it.
In this assignment, you should read the following quotes about and by writers. Do you see yourself in these any of these quotes? Are you the exact opposite of any of the quotes?
“It is impossible to discourage the real writers....they’re going to write.” Sinclair Lewis
We write because something inside us says we must and we can no longer ignore that voice.” Sheila Bender
“The more you read, the more you will write. The better the stuff you read, the better the stuff you will write.” Annie Dillard
“If I don’t write to empty my mind, I go mad.” Lord Byron
“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” Ernest Hemingway
“I’m writing a book. I’ve got the page numbers done.” Steven Wright
In this assignment, you should reflect on one of the previous quotes. These quotes all discuss the topic of writing. What quote best describes your definition of a “real writer?” How would you describe a “real writer?” In two or three paragraphs, define what quote you choose and why. Explain how this quote fits your definition of a “real writer.” Include a reflection about how this quote relates to your own writing style. Before you begin, access the Reflection Rubric to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
Once you have completed your reflection, please submit your work to the dropbox.
