Modernist Nonfiction

three students reading in front of bookshelvesAs you have seen, narratives written from one person's perspective tell a great deal about not only that person but also his or her surroundings as well. Nonfiction literary works, such as biographies, autobiographies, memoirs, and speeches, are important because they not only serve as fascinating portraits of a people but also offer visions of the time period and location. Personal narratives show individual viewpoints and dreams while inadvertently showing a whole lot more. Remember that as you write down events for assignments or your own enjoyment, everything that you write—no matter how personal—reveals a great deal more than just the facts about yourself.
