Crafting a Central Idea and Position for Persuasive Writing

There are plenty of controversial issues debated in the world today. Turn on any news program, open a newspaper, or log on to a news website with your computer or mobile device and you may see an unlimited amount of coverage arguing one side of an issue over another. Spend thirty minutes watching a news program or reading news coverage in a print or online publication. Then, think to yourself: What are the biggest issues being debated in the news right now? How do the people on opposing sides of the issues try to persuade others to adopt their perspectives?
