The writers of the Neoclassical and Restoration Periods wrote during years of great change in Britain. During these periods, the country experienced a civil war and parliamentary leadership. Order was finally restored with the coronation of Charles II. The literature of this time period reflects the changing leadership, as well as the changes to industry, science, and religion. This political change also brought about social change, which was reflected through the writings of journalists and advocates.
