In this topic, you were introduced to some of the most famous and accomplished British poets of the Romantic movement, and you also learned about the defining literary characteristics of Romanticism. As you explored the poetry of Romanticism, which poems were your favorites? Whom did you admire most of the Romantic writers?
To demonstrate your knowledge of Romantic literature and pay homage to these great poets, you will compose your own Romantic-style poem about the poets and their literary careers. Your poem can have a strict sonnet form, or you can eschew rhyme and meter altogether and write in free verse. The poetic devices and structure you use are your choice, but the theme of your poem must revolve around the Romantic poets and their literary works. You must include at least three Romantic poets, although you can write about all of them if you feel so inspired.
Other than the lives of the Romantic poets and their works, your poem should also incorporate at least three of the defining characteristics of Romanticism.
For example, perhaps your central theme celebrates the "common man" and equal rights for the working class. Or maybe you use vocabulary that refers to nature. After you have composed your poem, write a brief paragraph that explains how you incorporated the elements of Romanticism in your poem. Before you begin, review the Romantic Poem Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
Once you have completed your Romantic poem and explanatory paragraph, please submit your work to the dropbox.
