Thesis Statement and Outlining

Some students see outlining as a task to undertake, while other students see it as a valuable tool to help with writing an essay. When you think of the word "outline," what thoughts come to mind? What experience do you have with outlining? What might be the advantages and disadvantages of using an outline in writing assignments or projects?
