Pretend that you know someone who is a victim of violence, and you want to share his or her experiences with others so they can learn how to protect themselves. In a short, five sentence scenario, describe the violence that he or she experienced. Set up the scenario using only clues that hint at the type of violence that you are describing. Make sure to include the following:

Every time I walk out of science class, Alex is waiting for me. He thinks he is bigger and smarter than me. I am so nervous every day. He probably just wants to fit in with the popular kids. I’m afraid he might punch me one day.
It is up to your coursemates to look at the warning signs described in your scenario, and decide what type of action to take. Post your scenario to the course discussions area. While your coursemates have the opportunity to reflect on your scenario, do the same with theirs. Return to the topic several times over the next few days to read your coursemates' posts. Find a post to which no one has responded, and reply to that post with the following information:

It sounds like you are being bullied. There is a kid waiting outside of your class for you; he is trying to use his height and strength to intimidate you, and it seems like he wants to fit in with a different group by acting violently toward you. There is help out there! Before the threats become direct bullying, talk to an adult or school counselor.
