Stretching

RunningAs you sit, how do your muscles feel? Without starting any form of physical activity, your muscles are cold. It is not recommended to stretch cold muscles. In this Warm-Up activity, you are going to warm up your muscles to see how they feel before you learn how to properly stretch. To get started, perform a physical activity of your choosing for 10 to 15 minutes. For example, you can jog, or jog in place, take a leisurely bike ride, walk, practice your favorite sport outdoors, or play catch. After you finish warming up your muscles, think about the following questions:

  • How do your muscles feel?
  • Are they tired?
  • Are they tight?
  • Do they ache?
  • What stretches could you do to improve the performance of your muscles before you continued with your chosen activity?
