When instructors want to gain an understanding of how much content you have learned and mastered, they give you an assessment or test. Just as in science, math, or social studies courses, you need to assess your progress with regard to physical fitness. Assessments should take place before, during, and after you have concluded your personal fitness plan. If you do not provide yourself with baseline data and summative data, you will not know if your plan helped you reach your goals. In this interactivity, explore the types of assessments associated with a personal fitness plan. Click the player button to begin.

 Evaluation
Evaluation
After performing an assessment, whether as a pre-assessment or part of a formative or summative assessment, you should examine the data to determine your areas of strength and weakness. You can create and revise your personal fitness plan to address your strengths and weaknesses. Consider the following scenario: you design a fitness plan to help you improve your muscular strength. After completing your summative assessments, you find that you are unsatisfied with your results. You can conclude that the type of exercises in your fitness plan should have been modified to help you achieve your goal of improving your muscular strength. When you are able to assess and evaluate your level of fitness, you enable yourself to make better decisions that can benefit your overall level of health.
