The Formation of the Oceans

timeline iconFormation of the Oceans Timeline

A lot happened on the way to the balanced, beautiful blue oceans you see today! Now that you have studied the formation of the Earth's oceans, create a timeline that illustrates clearly the major events that scientists theorize led to the formation of the oceans.

Your timeline should include the following events:

  • The Big Bang
  • The cooling of the Earth
  • The filling of Earth's basins with water
  • The formation of the atmosphere
  • The formation of the Sun
  • Heavy rain
  • Singularity
  • Solar Nebula

You should organize these events in chronological order on your timeline. Each event should include a description of what scientists theorize happened and when it happened, as well as an appropriate label and image that corresponds to each event. Since this is your interpretation of these events, be creative and make sure to illustrate them accordingly. You can design your timeline horizontally, vertically, or in another format, as long as it is well-organized.

Before you begin, access the Formation of the Oceans Timeline Rubric so that you understand how your assignment will be graded.
