As the world's population approaches seven billion people, the need for protein also rises. Societies turn to the ocean for a source of protein and other resources. The overfishing of the oceans began shortly after World War II. Advancements in fishing methods have allowed people to harvest more fish; however, this has led to depletions of certain species of fish in areas around the world. There are solutions, though, which include various types of fisheries management and aquaculture.
