Overfishing

fishAs the human population rises, so does the demand for food. Fish is consumed around the world as part of many cultures' diets. The rise in human population, along with advances in commercial and industrial fishing techniques, have lead to the overfishing of many areas of the ocean. This has caused depleted fish stocks and even putting some species of fish at risk of extinction. There are organizations that monitor fishing, and some governments have placed restrictions on fishing in order to maintain sustainable yields.
