Freefall

apple fallingWhenever an object's acceleration is due only to gravity, it is in freefall. This phenomenon includes objects that are tossed upwards, dropped or thrown downwards. Any object in freefall on Earth experiences the same constant, negative acceleration, equal to -9.8 meters per second squared. This means that the uniform acceleration equations are accurate models for this motion and can be applied. You will apply this knowledge again when you study projectile motion, where objects move in two dimensions.
