Foundations of Psychology
Even though psychology is a field of science, you have seen in this topic that matters of psychology are far from "black and white." In fact, at times it may seem that there are more gray areas than conclusive answers. However, today there are many critics of the ideas proposed by pioneers of psychology, especially with advances in science that reveal more evidence about the brain and its functions. So how subjective or objective is the field of psychology?
In this application, you will use the Psychology Spectrum Graphic Organizer to organize the interpretations of psychology of the early leaders you learned about in this topic. A spectrum is a way to classify topics by using a scale that has two opposite points on either end, like the one shown above.
Take a moment to consider your personal views on psychology, and the beliefs of its pioneers. Place a mark on the spectrum indicating where you feel psychology as a discipline should be placed based on its history. Your should place the following pioneers on the spectrum:
- The early Greeks
- Wilhelm Wundt
- William James
- Sigmund Freud
- John B. Watson
Along with the name of the pioneer of psychology, you should also include one to two sentences indicating why you placed them in that location on the spectrum. Before you begin, access the Psychology Spectrum Graphic Organizer Checklist to make sure that you understand the items that need to be included in your assignment.
Once you have completed your Psychology Spectrum Graphic Organizer, please submit your work to the dropbox.
