The Legislative Process

LetterCitizens have an important role to play in the legislative process. As you learned during this topic, there are three ways that citizens can make their voices heard and influence public policy: actively participating in politics, communicating their opinions publically, or joining an interest group. For this application, you will be communicating your opinion publically by lobbying the government.

Doing this is as easy as writing to your Congressional representatives and communicating what is important to you. Consider an issue that is personally important, and write a letter to your U.S. Senator or House Representative on the issue you are passionate about. You can locate your Representative or Senator using the links listed below.

Your letter must be professionally formatted and explain why the issue is important to you. Think about how the issue impacts the public policy and why supporting or opposing it is beneficial to society as a whole. Also make sure your letter is free of spelling and grammatical errors.

When you have finished your letter, save your document and submit it to the dropbox.
