The Middle Colonies

Podcast iconTerrance at a recording stationImagine that you are an assistant to William Penn and have access to all of today’s modern technology. Penn had to vigorously recruit Europeans to travel to the Pennsylvania colony. Penn needs you to create a three to five minute podcast that will help recruit people to expand the Pennsylvania colony. Your podcast will need to cover important facts about the Pennsylvania colony that will attract settlers, farmers, builders, and traders. You will also need to include information on the fundamental values of the thriving colony.

Your podcast must include the following:

  • Information that will attract settlers, farmers, builders, and traders;
  • Information about Pennsylvania’s religious affiliation;
  • Information about Pennsylvania’s government and voting rights;
  • Information about Pennsylvania’s diversity; and
  • Information about Pennsylvania’s relations with the American Indians.

Your podcast should be well-organized, creative, and interesting. Instead of just presenting the information, your podcast should weave the facts together in order to tell a “story” about the thriving colony of Pennsylvania. In addition to your audio file, you should submit a transcript of your podcast. Use the audio recording information found in the Developmental Module to help you create your podcast.

Before you begin, access the Pennsylvania Colony Podcast Rubric to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment. If so, please submit a Works Cited document. If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you use.

Once you have completed your podcast, please submit the audio file and the transcript to the dropbox.
