Policies in the News

Find two articles from major newspapers, periodicals, or government publications, no less than one year old, that focus on the following topics:

  • A monetary policy action taken by the U.S. government; and
  • A fiscal policy action taken by the U.S. government.

Using a word processing program, type a summary of each article in a minimum of four sentences. Specify what action the government took for each policy, and how it will impact the economy. Then write a paragraph stating your opinion of the government's actions in each article. Do you think those actions were effective? What else do you think the government could do to stabilize the U.S. economy? Give specific examples. For instance, should the government cut specific programs, increase taxes, or do something else? Explain what each of your examples would accomplish, and also address government spending habits.
