The First Political Parties

Abraham Lincoln Political PosterArtist IconPolitical posters are created for every election. Many of the posters show both the presidential candidate and running mate. Some campaign posters show only the presidential candidate and include a message or slogan in support of the candidate. The campaign poster shown in the image is from the 1860 presidential election, showing Republican presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln and vice presidential candidate Hannibal Hamlin. For this assignment, you will create a campaign poster for one of the political parties and candidates for the election of 1800. Your poster design should include the following information:

  • The candidates for the political party
  • A slogan stating the political party’s position on one of the following items:
    • Your party’s position on the Bank of the United States;
    • Your party’s position on the Jay Treaty;
    • Your party’s position the undeclared war on France; or
    • The party’s position on the role of the federal government.

The intention of your poster is to get people to support the political party, so your poster design should be visually appealing and should include an image related to the election, or the slogan that your party used. Before you begin, access the Campaign Poster Checklist to make sure you include all of the items required for full credit.
