World War I

Throughout their journey into World War I, Terrence and Martina discovered that isolationism and neutrality did not work for the United States. In the past, the nation tried to maintain distance from the rest of the world, and ultimately found itself at the center of conflicts. The Great War, later known as World War I, turned out similarly. Although the United States attempted to stay neutral during the Great War, Germany sunk the Lusitania and sent the Zimmerman Telegram, prompting America to join the war effort and help the Allies defeat the Central Powers. After the Allies won the war, peace agreements started, and Wilson proposed the Fourteen Points to stop future world wars from occurring. Although nations rejected most of the Fourteen Points, the League of Nations was accepted into the Treaty of Versailles. Consequently, however, the U.S. Senate would not sign the treaty because it felt the League of Nations would compromise the country’s ability to control its own affairs.
