Assignment icon. The Renaissance played such an important role in human history that it is still celebrated today in Renaissance festivals and fairs throughout the country. Part fun and part education, these festivals seek to immerse attendees into the Renaissance experience through art, performances, objects, costume, and food. Thousands of people attend these events each year to experience this time period.

Pretend that you have been asked by a local Renaissance festival director to design an exhibit for the fair. Money is of no concern, so you have the funds to purchase any important artifacts or works of art from the time period. Choose the two artifacts or works of art from this topic that you feel best exemplify the spirit of the Renaissance and were the most important of that time period. In a document, list those two items and then write two to three sentences about each of your choices that answer the questions below:

  • Why do you think this artifact or work of art best exemplifies the spirit of the Renaissance?
  • How does the artifact or work of art demonstrate the influence of humanism?
  • What classical Greek or Roman influences are present in the artifact or work of art?

Before you begin, access the Renaissance Fair Exhibit Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
