With its emphasis on reasoned observation and systematic measurement, the Scientific Revolution changed the way people viewed the world and their place in it. The formulation of the scientific method allowed several pioneers to make new theories and discoveries during this time. Nicolaus Copernicus developed the heliocentric theory. Johannes Kepler discovered planetary motion, while Galileo Galilei used the telescope to support the heliocentric theory. Isaac Newton formulated the laws of gravity, and William Harvey discovered circulation of blood.
As a result of these men’s efforts, scientific knowledge expanded drastically. In addition, this new emphasis on reason and logic caused others to question the place of man and government in society during the Age of the Enlightenment.
