Titrations

TitrationDetermining the concentration of an unknown base or acid is achieved through a titration. A titration uses an indicator and a titrant. The titrant is a solution of known concentration that is used to neutralize the solution of unknown concentration. If the solution of unknown concentration is a base, then an acid is used as a titrant. If the solution of unknown concentration is an acid, then a base is used as the titrant. During the titration, you slowly add the titrant until a change of color is observed. This is known as the end point of the titration. After the end point, you can use mathematics to solve for the molarity of the solution.
