Part of your responsibility as a consumer is knowing your rights, knowing enough to understand when those rights have been violated, and knowing what to do when they are. In the assignments that follow, please read through the instructions carefully to ensure that you understand the assignments and then complete all information as requested.
Who Can Help
Once your rights have been ignored or violated, there are a variety of government agencies and organizations to protect you and help you make things right. In Part One of this assignment, you will research a variety of consumer protection agencies and identify what they do and how to report a complaint. In Part Two, you will be given a variety of consumer complaints. You will be required to identify which consumer protection agency should receive your complaint.
Part One: Consumer Protection Agency Information
Using the Consumer Protection Agency Identification Worksheet, for each agency listed, find out what it does and how to report a complaint. Websites for each agency are provided below.
Part Two: Identification of Appropriate Consumer Protection Agency
Using the same Consumer Protection Agency Identification Worksheet and, based on the complaints provided on the worksheet, identify which consumer protection agency would handle the complaint. You may identify the agency with its abbreviation (CPSC, FCA, etc.).
