The Epic of Gilgamesh

ReporterReporters and journalists who conduct interviews must prepare their important questions ahead of time. Can you imagine a reporter showing up to interview someone without any prepared questions? In this assignment, you will prepare questions as if you were a reporter on assignment.

Imagine that you are a reporter for the Sumerian Times, and you have the opportunity to conduct an exclusive interview with Gilgamesh, king of Uruk. What would you ask Gilgamesh? How would you conduct an interview with a half-man, half-god, who is short tempered?

Your interview could focus on one of the following topics:

  • His friendship with Enkidu
  • His decision not to marry Ishtar
  • His journey and lessons learned

You are to choose one account and create five questions that you would ask Gilgamesh, as well as responses based on what you have read in The Epic of Gilgamesh.  In creating your interview questions, please use the following guidelines:

  • Your interview questions should allow for Gilgamesh to reveal his innermost thoughts about the topic.
  • Your questions should be open-ended in nature, so they can encourage Gilgamesh to describe the impact of his actions on his journey as well as the impact the journey had on others.
  • The interview questions should be clearly written; however, they can be personalized as if you are the interviewer.

Before you begin, access the Sumerian Times Checklist to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.
