Oedipus Rex, Prologue - Scene Two

Oedipus at ColonusOedipus solved the riddle of the Sphinx and earned the trust and respect of the people of Thebes. As their king, he must now help them through the plague. As Oedipus deals with how to handle this suffering, a complication unfolds. The tragic hero’s flaw begins to manifest.  Oedipus’ pride and arrogance has caused him to make false accusations against a blind prophet, Teiresias, and his brother-in-law, Creon.  Oedipus’ challenge to save the city of Thebes has forced him to face his past as well as his fate. Oedipus is left with many questions. Did he kill Laius? Is he married to his mother, thus fulfilling the prophecy?
