Lord of the Flies, Chapters Two and Three

Fear and Decisions Interview

InterviewIn order to form connections with some of the characters in Lord of the Flies, you will ask a few of your friends and/or relatives about their fears and their decision making process. In this assignment, it is best to interview a variety of ages and genders if possible. By interviewing different age groups, you can gain an understanding of how fears and decisions change as you mature. Try to interview:

  • A child between the ages of 6-12
  • A teen between the ages of 13-17
  • A young adult between the ages of 18-25
  • An adult between the ages of 26-50
  • An adult 51 and older

You are to ask the following questions:

  1. What fears, if any, do you have?  Have you had these fears your entire life, or did something specific cause the fears?

  2. Have you ever made a decision that you rushed into without thinking it through?  Did things turn out alright, or were the consequences difficult on you?  If you had thought it through before making the decision, how do you think the consequences would have differed?

*You may decide to ask more questions, but the questions listed above must be asked.

Once you have interviewed these five individuals, write a report on your findings. Your report must include the purpose of the interview, who you interviewed, what the responses of the different individuals were. Your report should be at least one typed page.

Before you begin, access the Fear and Decisions Rubric to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit.  You may need to use resources outside of this course to complete this assignment.  If so, please submit a Works Cited document.  If you need assistance, visit the Developmental Module for information on citing any resources that you used.
