Poetical Elements (Whitman and the Fireside Poets)

female student holding brochure "creativity"After reading examples of Romantic poetry, which of the Fireside Poets is your favorite? How would you recommend that poet to a friend?

In this assignment, you will have a chance to creatively express your enthusiasm and interest in one of the Fireside Poets. Create a brochure-style document that advertises one Fireside Poet and one of his poems. You may choose any of the four poets, but your poetry piece may not be "The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls." Once you have selected a poet and a poem, create a document that can be folded into thirds. Most word processing software has built-in templates in the galleries. You can save time by looking for a template in the program or online that will have the margins correctly formatted for you. The brochure should include images and information about the poet and a brief analysis of the poem you chose with at least one graphic. Your brochure should also advertise and really "sell" the poet and his poem. You might want to list positive attributes about the poem and/or information about the Romantic era and how well the poem represents the style. Use your creativity, but make sure it is well formatted in that the brochure should not have too much information and is easy to read and error-free.
