Active Reading

Active ReadingActive reading allows you to interact with a text in a meaningful way. It teaches you to annotate, or ask questions of a text, as you read. In addition, it helps you make note of interesting or important features of a work. Using context clues, you can find the meanings of unfamiliar words, as well as recognizing techniques, such as foreshadowing, to guess what is to come later in the work. You may already do this instinctively as you watch TV or a movie; as you watch you predict what will come next, and you analyze the characters to learn about their motivations.
