Active Reading

readingNow that you know how to annotate a text, you can use these skills to help you as you read works throughout this course. By considering the subject of the text and making some predictions before you begin to read, you can implement Pre-Reading Strategies to help prepare you. Then, using the During Reading Strategies, you can make notes, underline important passages, identify problem words, and decide how you feel about a work while you read it. Finally, you can use After-Reading Strategies to summarize your thoughts, provide a synopsis of a work, and create any new questions. These tools will be instrumental as you encounter different types of writing throughout school and into your adult life.
