Grammar: Active/Passive Voice

Understanding the benefits and uses of active and passive voice will make you a better writer. Active voice means the subject of the sentence performs the action of its verb. It is preferable in academic writing as it is easier to read and more to the point.

On the other hand, passive voice has the subject receiving the action of the verb. While you are cautioned against using passive voice, it can be used when the performer of the action is unknown or unimportant.
