Rest and the Endocrine System

Waking up to an alarm clockConducting a Poll

In this activity, you will create a poll to find out the following information:

  • What is the average amount of time your peers spend sleeping per night?
  • What is the average amount of time your peers spend sleeping per week?
  • What is the average amount of time teachers spend sleeping per night?
  • What is the average amount of time teachers spend sleeping per week?
  • What is the average amount of time administrators spend sleeping per night?
  • What is the average amount of time administrators spend sleeping per week?
  • You may add more questions to better understand sleeping patterns and fatigue.

Then find out the following information:

  • Does each group (peers, teachers, administrators) feel fatigued very often? Ask questions such as these:
    • How often do you feel unmotivated?
    • Do you ever feel like you have no energy?  If so, how often do you feel this way?
    • Are you exhausted by the end of the day?
    • Is there a certain time that these groups feel more fatigued (during SOL testing, SAT testing, etc.)?

Once you have polled your peers, teachers, and administrators, report your findings. You need to include:

  • An explanation of the poll you conducted
  • How you planned and organized your poll
  • How many people from each group you polled
  • What you concluded from conducting the poll (how sleep and fatigue relate to each other, whether sleep and fatigue patterns are similar or different in each group, etc.)

You may include charts in your report.  Your report has to be at least one-and-one-half pages in length. Before you begin, access the Fatigue Poll Rubric to make sure that you include all of the items required for full credit. If resources outside of this course are used to complete this assignment, please submit a Works Cited document.
