Pangaea and Continental Drift

In this topic, you learned that all of the land was once connected in a super continent called Pangaea, which was surrounded by a vast ocean called Panthalassa. German scientist Alfred Wegener complied evidence from several fields of science about this landmass and devised his theory of continental drift.

Unfortunately, Wegener was not able to explain how the continents drifted apart, so it took the work of later scientists and new technologies to shed light on Wegener's theory.
