Thousands of years ago, early humans experienced very different stressors than they do today. For example, they had to find food and avoid animal attacks. To help them stay safe from unexpected events, early humans reacted quickly, and with energy and focus. Unfortunately, the body reacts the same way today as it did thousands of years ago, even though stressors are very different. Research today seeks to discover the effects of stress, and how humans adapt to constant stressors of the modern world.
