Therapy
How to Help
You have learned that people with psychological concerns need different types of treatment to ease their situations. Read the client description below, then describe how therapeutic approaches could help. Make sure your explanation includes the approach, goals, and relevant key terms. Finally, choose which type of therapy you feel would help this particular client the most, and explain why you made this decision.
Client A is a freshman in college. She is struggling to adjust to campus life and the new stressors of this transition. None of her former high school classmates attend the same college, and it is located five hours away from home. She is struggling with her grades and has found the rigor of her classes more than she expected. She increasingly spends more time in her dorm room, isolating herself. She feels fatigued and unmotivated. Her thoughts are mainly negative and fearful. She is worried that she has made a mistake and feels trapped. She believes she is the only one experiencing a tough transition. She is afraid she is going to let her parents down if she fails. | ![]() |
In the discussion area, write a paragraph explaining how three of the following therapeutic approaches could help Client A: behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, biological therapy, humanistic therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Then, argue which therapy would be the best for Client A, and justify your choice. Post your responses to the discussion area. Then, return to the topic several times over the next few days to read your course mates' posts. Reply to at least two of them, making sure to offer new insights, ask questions, and encourage further conversation.
