Satellite Imagery and the Global Positioning System

Computer and satellite dishToday, scientists have the ability to gain a lot of information from a distance. Remote sensing is a technological advantage. With remote sensing, Earth scientists can collect data from dangerous volcanoes, impossible to reach clouds, or far-away lands without leaving the security of their lab. Remote sensing is made possible by satellite technologies. Using satellites and collecting satellite imagery, scientists have access to a wealth of data that they can use to better monitor the Earth on a global scale.
